Toilet Twinning - Help Glossop flush away poverty

Glossop Labour Club is working with various groups to get Glossop officially recognised as a:
"Toilet Twinned Town"
What is Toilet Twinning ?
Toilet Twinning is an international initiative to help to transform lives in some of the poorest places on the planet. 1.7 Billion people don't have somewhere safe, private or hygienic to go to the toilet. Families are funded to build a basic toilet, have access to clean water and learn about hygiene – a vital combination that saves lives.
Currently, programmes are running in Afghanistan, Cote d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Hondoras, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Uganda and Zambia.
A new toilet will be provided where it is needed for £60. Each Glossop twinned toilet can choose which country to support and will be provided with a certificate confirming its twinned status which will include a photograph and GPS coordinates of its twin.
The aim is to twin at least 20 toilets in Glossop so that Glossop can qualify as a "Toilet Twinned Town" - a first for High Peak and the second in the whole of Derbyshire. Glossop has already twinned a number of toilets, as a result of efforts by the Green Network of Churches and the WI, to help us meet this target.
Who is involved ?
The Glossop Toilet Twinning Group is made up of representatives from the Glossop Labour Club,
Glossop Green Network of Churches,
Glossopdale Fair Trade and
High Peak Green New Deal.
Information on the toilets have already been twinned in Glossop is still being collected but we understand that there are at least 8 sited in the Churches, Schools and the WI.
We have only just started looking for businesses and groups to twin their toilets but already we have the following who have agreed to be involved toilet.
We would also like to thank the following for helping out:
The Pilates Studio for taking charge of The Big Squat
Joe Barber Plumbing Merchants for providing us with some props - two toilets !
Glossop Labour Club for underwriting the set up costs
Serious Issue for donating lots of toilet paper for the games
The Savings Zone for donating two toilet brushes for the toilet brush golf game
Our Mayor of High Peak, Councillor Ollie Cross, for opening the events and agreeing to be a victim in the kid's games !
Cara Miles from Toilet Twinning for resources and advice
.... and a number of volunteers baking cakes for us.
How will we pay for the Twinned Toilets ?

Those making a donation and wanting to support a specific Glossop Twinned Toilet should identify the business/group in the notes box when making the donation. This is on the understanding that any surplus funds identified for the twinning of a particular toilet will be transferred to another toilet.
N.B. Please remember to check the box so we can see your comments so we can allocate the funds - we will not use your data for anything else !
Everyone is encouraged to "Spend a Penny" using the various collection tins sited where toilets are due to be twinned as well as in Glossop Labour Club (which is always open on Tuesday and Friday evenings). A number of schools will also be participating. This is an obvious place to pass on all those small coins that seem to collect around the place.
